October 16

Ahoy there period 1! Today is October 15th, and there were about eight of you absent. Luckily, Mrs Brosius decided not to proceed with the planned lesson because too many people were absent. Instead of this, we had a discussion regarding stereotyping and materialism. Mrs. Brosius moved from Califronia to Arkansas when she was only in the fourth grade, and wasn’t at all ready for the radical change in society. She was kicked out for wearing pants. Furthermore, nobody would hangout with her because everybody assumed her dad was a drug dealer. It’s truely sad. Luckily, however, she moved back to California when she was a junior. She was ready for surrounding of California again. After that, we finished our Philosophy of Life assignment, as well as our Sigmund Freud research. We turned it into Turniton.com, so try to get it in there. Goodbye

Today on the 14th of October we continued to talk about our philosophy of life. This assignment is due on Friday. To help us get started on this we have recently read some work by John Ashbery, which talks about his philosophy of life. We listened to his philosophy on tape the other day. Mrs. Brosius talked about our project then told us that we would be soon learning about Sigmund Freud, an Austrian Philosopher who studies the human mind. We then got to work on our project for the rest of the period. For those of us who finished our philosophy already, we got started on our author study about Sigmund Freud, which is also due on Friday. Mrs. Brosius perused around the classroom and read some of the philosophies that have already been completed. Everyone continued to work; it was a fairly calm and relaxing day and hopefully everyone got something accomplished. Then the bell rang and as usual Mrs. Brosius told us to “be nice to people!” J

Hey Period 1, how’s it going?
In case you missed today, here’s what happened.  Today, we began the class with a discussion on the upcoming earthquake drill this Thursday.  Mrs. Brosius was very informative on how she wanted us to behave.  She noted that it would not be a good day for girls to wear their mini skirts and that we act appropriate for the occasion.  She also said that it would be a good idea to treat it as a “what if” situation.  What if the drill was real someday? Would we know what to do?  Yes! If we pay attention, when the time comes, we’ll all be ready.
However, after our quick discussion, we went straight into discussing our new assignments.   We are to create a personal philosophy on life and base it off of John Ashbery’s writing.  Tonight we are only supposed to brainstorm and begin to think up our own philosophies, that way, come tomorrow we are ready to write and turn in our final philosophies.  While Mrs. Brosius was explaining this assignment to us, she put up an example of what we are supposed to do as a kind of guide line and told us all the things that she went through to write up her philosophy.  And toward the end of class, we were allowed to begin working on some ideas that may influence what our personal philosophies may be.  All in all, today was a good day in Modern Literature, and I’m sure there will be more to come.

And remember, tomorrow at the end of class, these essays will be turned in, so work hard and focus tomorrow in class.  [Your Senior Reporter]

Here’s the senior report for today:

What’s up Period one? Today as your senior reporter I had observed that our class is a bit chatty during the morning announcements. After the announcements, Mrs. Brosius showed the class a map of the world of all the people that have visited the website. We then got into our groups and practiced going over our presentations for about five minutes. Mrs. Brosius than explained the directions to the audience and then the presentations began. Romanticism went first and did a very well job of explaining their movement and passed out candy and a handout. The next group Realism did a good job as well and also passed our a handout and presented a powerpoint. The last group of the day was Post-Modernism which did a good job and also passed out candy. We took notes on all three of these movements, and will be taking more tomorrow. We will also get a recap from the groups that went today to clarify some key points. So be at school tomorrow and as the bell rang, Mrs. Brosius said her everyday phase of “Have a good day. Be nice to people.”

Hello period one. This is your senior reporter, telling you what went on today in class.  Today started off with Jacob coming in late..again and grinning as he went to his seat.  After he sat down, we all said the pledge of aliegence and Mrs. Brosius started with directions on what we were doing today.  The whole period our group worked on our project, which had to be turned in at the end of the period.  Everyone was working hard and diligently for the whole period and everyone got their projects turned in. It wasn’t an exciting day for our Modern Lit class, it was just work, work, work until we got our stuff done. As the bell rung, everyone left class and Mrs. Brosius said her typical phrase “Have a good day and be nice to people.”  That pretty much wraps up todays summary.

P.S- Soon we will be presenting our presentations to the class.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and is recovered from our 3 week of school!  Today, as we all piled into Mrs. Brosius room at the early time of 7:48, we immediately log onto our computes and read the most recent updates Mrs. Brosius has posted on her blog.  While announcements were being said over the loud speaker Mrs. Brosius had to remind us to focus on listening and to stop playing on the computers. Oops, sorry Mrs. B!  After the announcements she had us getting straight down to business with our Lit Modern Group Projects.  She explained to us the exact necessities to the project and had us think of ways we can help the class learn about our group topic.  She gave us examples such as: posters, power point, skit, rap, handouts, anything our minds can think of to teach our class but to make it more informational rather than entertaining.  As it started to get closer to the end of the period, groups started to exchange numbers and specific points were being assigned to certain people.  As we pile our books into our backpacks and log out of our computers the bell rings and we receive the daily reminder by Mrs. Brosius, “Have a nice day and be nice to people!”

Hello Period One,

Today was a fun day because it was assembly day which meant shorter period. It started off with no journal but instead Mrs. Brosius was trying to remember our names. She went around the room and messed up a few times, so that meant we were able to take a group quiz. Next, she put us into groups for our English project which consisted of types of modern literature we would have to look up. Once we got in groups of eight, she divided them into two different groups of four. Next she gave us a group quiz and we had to answer questions about modern literature and what it’s characteristics were and everything. After the quiz we were able to switch contact information within our group so that way we could get in touch with each other over the weekend for our group project. Then as the bell rang we heard Mrs. Brosius say “Have a great weekend and remember to be nice to people.” Today was a fun day

Hey first period!!

It’s Thursday!! The weekend is just around the corner.  Today We started off with the announcements which mostly talked about the football game against Wilson.  GO GRIFFINS!!  Then Mrs. Brosius was trying to remember every ones name.  The only full row she could remember was the front haha.  She will get it soon though.  There was no journal today so Mrs. Brosius went straight to talking about the modern lit worksheet that we have been doing in class.  If you are typing it, you need to put it in your class notes section, NOT your lit analysis section.  You can also write your answers directly on the paper if you don’t want to type the questions out.  You will most likely finish the worksheet faster and with the correct answers if you read the information in the book first.  There will be a test on this worksheet, so i suggest you actually try to get the right answers.  Mrs. Brosius said that if we work hard on the worksheet in class then we can finish it tomorrow.  She is also assigning groups tomorrow for our next project.  While we were working hard on our modern lit worksheets, Mrs. Brosius had some students pass back our graded Post Secondary Assignments.  She then encouraged everyone to check our grades on line because unfortunately, not everyone in the class has an A.  We were allowed to play Boatload Puzzles for the first time today!!  If you think you are good at puzzles, challenge Mrs. Brosius.  She will have fun beating you =]].  The bell rang while we were all doing the cross word puzzles forcing us to log out of our computers and head off to our next class.  Overall, it was a good period =]].

It [was] a beautiful Thursday at Los Alamitos high school and it is almost friday! Its the last day of club week so if didn’t..you better sign up by the end of today for the clubs you want to join! Today in class, we didnt have a journal, instead we worked on a worksheet the entire period and like always Mrs. Brosius is in a funny mood. There is a big football game tonight so go to the game and cheer on our boys! Today we learned that some people in the class are obsesed with frarmville and  Mrs. Borsius is very good at crossword puzzles. In order to prove her crossword puzzle skills, Mrs. Brosius challenged that entire class to go against her in cross word puzzle game online. They were really tough ones but we were all saved by the bell before anyone could win. Class is over and Mrs. Brosious says,” be nice to people.” Study the worksheet that we did in class today we might have a surprise quiz on it tomorrow! Have a wonderful night; tomorrow is friday the week is almost over.- the ghost writer

Hello Period 1!

Today we began class with a journal entry: Reflect on a time you felt extremely alone in a crowded place…How did you overcome the loneliness, how do you avoid the feeling now?  We then discussed the journal and proceeded with the day.  Mrs. B reminded us about college visitations. She encourages us all to be active with our college search so she has left information about the colleges in the back of the room.  I suggest you check it out.  She was also very persistent about us going online and applying for scholarships. After that, Mrs. B passed out a information sheet from Mr. Rheim for us to fill out about our college search and where we stand with it all.  She then took time for us to see if we could name every one in the class.  There were two attempts: AJ who sadly failed, and Gaby who succeeded.  I believe that means Gaby received a Free Homework Pass.  Congratulations Gaby.  Mrs. B finished the name game segment with a deal; she said that if she cannot remember every ones name in class by Friday, each of us will receive five extra credit points, a homework pass, and we will get to make our next test a group test.  I’d say that is a pretty good deal!  Following the name game, Mrs. B described how our journal entry of the day played a role in Modernism.  She explained how alienation is a major theme for Modernism.  We then began working on an independent study sheet about the historical background to a literary movement.  Don’t worry if you didn’t finish today in class because Mrs. B said that we will have time tomorrow to finish up!

When the bell rang, everyone quickly logged of their computers and rushed out of class.  Mrs. B obviously shouted out her infamous mantra : ” Be nice to people!” That basically sums up this lovely Wednesday in first period Modern Lit.

REMINDERS!!

-Avatars are due this Friday for a Homework Pass!

-You will not be paired with one of your close friends for the Modernism project

-Wear blue to school tomorrow to support the football team!!

Happy Tuesday Period 1!!!

Today began like any other day. Students shuffled into the classroom while Mrs. Brosius sat at her computer waiting for the bell to ring. Once the bell did ring, everyone went to the class website to check out the first blog from our senior reporter. I must say they gave an exciting and detailed report of our monday class activites. Usually we would then do a journal, but instead we had special guest, Mr. Rheim, come in to talk to us about the college process. The excited Mr. Rheim entered the classroom with an enthusiastic “whoooo!”, and I even think I heard Mrs. Brosius yell “whooo!” in return. Mr. Rheim wasted no time and began his talk with the quote, “failing to plan is planning to fail”. How true that is. Throughout the period he talked about community college, university’s, and private colleges, telling us what we needed to do to get. He motivated us to set goals for ourselves so we could be prepared when it comes to apply for college. He handed out a blue peice of paper that had a timeline of important dates that would help us get ready for college. So, if you didn’t get that piece of paper, I suggest you do pronto. The bell rang before Mr. Rheim could finish his speech so he left us with one last quote saying,”it’s better to be prepaired and not have an opportunity, than to have an opportunity and not be prepaired”. As we were leaving, we could hear Mrs. Brosius say those all to familiar words of  “have a nice day, and be nice to people!!”

Hello period 1! Here is your first [Senior Reporter] entry of the year! Today started off with the collection of our post secondary projects.  I think we all felt a sense of relief having our first major assignment completed and turned in.  We then reflected on this project through our journal entries and Mrs. Brosius began to discuss the beach clean up that occured over the weekend.  After discovering that a somewhat meager amount of people attended this event, Mrs. Brosius encouraged attendance to future beach clean ups, adding that you don’t have to be a beach bum to help keep our beaches clean. We then moved onto the “seniors only section” of the class website, checking for new information such as ghostwriter entries and Avatar Wars.  After our minds were full of exciting updates from the class blog, we were informed that Mr. Rheim would be joining our class tomorrow to answer our college questions.  We brainstormed as a class to come up with questions to make sure we don’t disappoint Mr. Rheim with lack of interest and participation. Lastly, Mrs. Brosius introduced our new topic of study: literary movements.  She proceeded to impress the class with her phenomenal acting skills, portraying each movement with a short skit.  We were just beginning to research the movements when we were interupted by the bell. As always, students quickly began to spill out of the classroom, and class was ended with the sound of Mrs. Brosius’ voice calling out her daily mantra, “Be nice to people!”  [Your Senior Reporter]

It just so happens that there were around eight people gone today. Because of this, we decided not to continue with the planned lesson. Mrs. Brosius talked about her childhood, and some social issues that she ran into when she was still child. The main idea was at first materialism, but it began to wonder. Mrs. Brosius at first lived in California, but moved to Arkansas when she was in fourth grade. She was temporarily kicked out of the school the first day for wearing a pair of pants. Everybody assumed that because of her being from california and her wealth, her father was a drug dealer. Stereotyping is a terrible thing. Mrs. Brosius moved back to California during her junior year. Good thing she came back! What a difference between California and Arkansas! Furthermore, we turned in our Philosophy of Life and our Sigmund Freud research as well via Turnitin.com, try to get that into her if you can.
