Class Management Plan
Class Management Plan for Mrs. Brosius
You can expect me to be fair and consistent. I expect you to work hard and give me your best effort. You can expect me to be available for questions when clarification is needed or when extra help is necessary. I expect you to seek help when needed; come in for tutoring before school or after school. You can expect me to be prepared each day. I expect you to come prepared with all required materials each day. You can expect me to have grades updated frequently. I expect you to keep track of your progress and be self-reliant. Together, we will have a successful year.
Grades:
The grades in this class will be accessible to students and parents on a daily basis. Each student will be given a password and an account number to access the Aeries online grading program. If you are unable to access the site at home you can print out a copy of your report in class. You are required to keep track of you access information. The grading scale is calculated as follows:
97.5-100=A+
92.5-97=A
89.5-92=A-
87.5-89=B+
82.5-87=B
79.5-82=B-
77.5-79=C+
72.5-77=C
69.5-72=C-
67.5-69=D+
62.5-67=D
59.5-62=D-
59.5 and below=F
Citizenship and effort grades are based on your compliance with the class structure, attendance policy, detention policy, dress code policy, and contribution to discussions and general attitude. Truancies and excessive tardies will affect citizenship grades.
Homework, Make-up and Long-term Assignments:
You have one day for each day absent to complete work missed. Homework, tests and quizzes must be turned in or taken the day of return(since they are always scheduled in advance). I will only excuse you from an assignment or test if you are absent on the day that I announced a test/quiz/homework assignment and miss the days up to the day of the test or due date. If you have an extended absence see me to set up a time line for make up work. This policy applies to excused absences only. I expect you to communicate with your classmates about missed work (obtain phone numbers from class members). If you still have questions, see me.
I do not accept late work. Requests for extensions will be given only in the case of a serious emergency. There are certain assignments that will not be accepted late, even with an excused absence, unless parent/guardian contact has been made with me prior to the due date. I promise to have a well-planned lesson for you every day you are in school. I expect you to be well prepared with your work completed BEFORE you walk into class.
Academic Dishonesty
Work that you submit must be your own. Plagiarism and or cheating will not be tolerated. To assure the integrity of my program all work will be scanned through a plagiarism data base; turnitin.com. The data base cross references the world wide web as well as papers scanned from other classes at Los Al High School. To avoid any confusion, make certain that you understand, plagiarism is defined as simply as- blatantly copying others’ words and as subtly as- rewording, “borrowing,” or alluding to others’ words or ideas without providing credit or citation. Anywhere on this spectrum, plagiarism is theft—intellectual theft. Consequences for plagiarism include an F on the assignment, with no opportunity to redo and a report of the offense to your counselor and administration.
Format Standards:
Standards for paper presentation are taught in the ninth grade. You have received a LAHS stylebook to use as a reference. The stylebook follows MLA format. Points are deducted if format rules are not followed. In the case of handwritten paper, I will return any work back that I can not read. The rewritten paper must be returned within 24 hours to receive credit.
Daily Writing:
Research shows that daily writing is an effective work out tool in developing fluency. The practice is a good tool for preparing students for future timed writing on college entrance exams. You will be given ten minutes at the beginning of the day’s period to fill one page, approx. 350 words, on the assigned topic. You are required to keep these essays in your virtual journal. Progress will be monitored without notice. Your effort and completion will be graded periodically. The essays will be collected without notice and any page not meeting the criteria will receive a zero out of a possible of five points. Perfect practice makes perfect.
Class Standard
Simply put; Excellence is expected and will be pursued!!! You are required to bring to class each and every day the following: paper, blue or black pen, planner and appropriate text for the day. Neither jump nor gmail account is required however, I encourage students utilize either or as a safe means to transport work from home computer to school computer or vise versa. As a student of this class you will respect each other’s right to learn. Absolutely no profanity, abusive language, teasing or put-downs will be tolerated. Students will participate in-group work and class discussions in a positive manner. As a consequence to negative behavior, students will be given an alternate assignment and/ or alternate seat. If negative behavior persists, administration and parent contact will be made, whereas strategies will be discussed to improve student’s behavior.
In compliance with the school policies: electronic communication devices are not allowed to be turned on at any time during class nor will students wear headphones at any time in the class.
In effort to maintain a beautiful campus, students are required to adhere to the designated eating areas. No food or drinks (with the exception of water) will be allowed in the classroom.
My goal for this year is to help each student be successful at and above their course level. I encourage students to seek individual tutoring when necessary; I am available before school or after school by appointment. I have set up several resources for student use on our class blog and will continue to update the assignment calendar as a means of extended learning and organization. Please utilize the sources that are set up for your success and feel free to contact me if you are ever confused about the work being assigned.
If you have any questions, you may contact me through LAHS (562)799-4780 ext760 or you may email me teaching.eng@gmail.com. My conference period is 6th period 1:44-2:30.
I look forward to a productive school year.
