Vocabulary Study Suggestions
Vocabulary!! It is not going away!
Let’s do this right!! Vocabulary is an important component of our AP Language course. You are not memorizing 20 words a week, you are learning 20 words a week. Words from past units will show up as synonyms or antonyms, therefore, your understanding of the vocabulary from week to week is critical to passing the upcoming tests. Here is a reminder of study strategies for each vocabulary unit:
First day
Define any of the words you already know using your own definitions. You will check your understanding by researching the word. Take 5 words and research the meaning.
Use several dictionaries to fully research the word. Add to your definition as you find new meaning. Make sure you understand the synonyms and antonyms.
If the dictionary entries provide example sentences then write them out.
Use the words in conversation throughout the day.
